Wondering how inspirational quotations, butterflies and lantana bushes are connected?

One of the best — maybe the best — plants to attract butterflies is the lantana bush.

Its blossoms are often two colors, and vary in color even on the same plant.  It likes well-drained soil, and once established doesn’t need a lot of care.

I have one in my back yard.  Last year my sister rescued it from her lantana bush.  The stem and root separated from the plant.  We replanted it close to the house.  It wanted to fall over, so I staked it.

And when winter came it died down as lantana plants do.

This spring though it is back.  No longer one stick it definitely qualifies as a small bush.

What Do Inspirational Quotations and Butterflies and Lantana Bushes Have in Common?

It is attracting butterflies and serving as a reminder that there is life beyond winter.  Are you facing something challenging?

Wondering how the lantana bush and butterfly story can help?

Stepping back and looking at the whole picture to put it and life’s circumstances in perspective can be hard.  It can also be one of the best things you can do.

“What the caterpillar calls the end of the world the Master calls a butterfly.” ~ Richard Bach

I know.  You see my two poodles passed last July.  Three weeks apart.  It was hard losing one, let alone two.  They were both rescued dogs, and outlived the so-called experts.

At the time, knitting just wasn’t enough to ease the pain.  We planted the lantana bush shortly after the first one passed.

It and the butterflies it attracts serve as a reminder how this life is not the end.  And it no longer hurts my heart to look at the lantana bush or think of “my girls.”

“To everything there is a season, and a time for every matter or purpose under heaven:

A time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted.” ~ Ecclesiastes 3: 1-2, Amplified Bible
